Partners in England
Our active partners include Help the Aged, Age Concern, Care & Repair, Housing Associations, Victim Support and local charities such as Help & Care Bournemouth.
- Help the Aged operate a home security service for elderly people and have approximately 15 vans based in various locations with the administration centre in Clacton-on-Sea. The handyman keeps the van at his own home and receives his instructions from the office in Clacton-on-Sea. Help the Aged contribute to approximately 50% of the cost and the reminder is received from the various Local Authorities, charities, agencies and beneficiaries. Help the Aged are keen to work with local partners to minimise the use of their central funds.
- Age Concern operates a handyman project with a focus on home repairs, maintenance, and decorating.
- Care & Repair consists of a National organisation, which acts as a central network and local branches, which operate their own projects. They are primarily a repair and maintenance agency but are increasingly providing home security and working with Local Authorities on crime prevention work.
- Housing Associations often provide a handyman service to their residents and even to other local persons in need, in particular in urban areas. The Anchor Stay-Put project is very widespread and our local projects refer a number of cases to them for general repair and maintenance work on the property.
- Victim Support arranges in some areas for local workman to provide a home security service to victims of burglary. This service is funded by the Local Authority and is offered on an ad hoc basis.
- Various local charities e.g. Help & Care Bournemouth operate home maintenance projects. These increasingly provide a home security service as they are often funded by Local Authorities who are now obliged to consider this as part of their responsibility under the Crime and Disorder Act.
